‘A Couple of Europhiles’ cover EU politics; Merkel’s swan song, the Bavarians, the next Bundestag, Draghi, Macron – and Covid, of course.

On this episode I discuss with Francis the ‘changing of the guard’ in European politics. How Macron will crush Le Pen and Barnier’s role in centre right French politics. We cover Merkel’s Swan Song, her successors, the Bavarians and the next Bundestag elections in September. Then on to our favorite topic; Italy! How Draghi may be no great orator but he is encouraging – dare I say, could it be true – the Italians to be just a little bit optimistic. Draghi really is trying to herd his grand coalition and he’s using the Covid recovery funds to fix and do those reforms Italy has shied away from in the past.

We address Hungary and Orban’s discriminatory laws against the LGBTQ community and how the EU has created levers to discourage Orban and his behavior. We cover COVID, Dr. Peter Hotez’s approach with the people’s vaccine and the challenges therein – an oh so much more – please come and play with us – we love Europe and the EU, and you will too…
