I keep telling you there’s a reason I’m writing about this place in northern Italy, this region nestled up against the Italian, Swiss and French Alps. It will take your breath away.
And, their supply chain is short so they want for nothing. I suppose most of Italy is like that, in varying degrees or so I hear and I think it’s safe to say the Italians would like these war games to end.
This is precisely why my mind’s happily focused on Piemonte. Unlike the rest of this messy, choatic world, Italy has not lost a bit of its lustre, you don’t find opportunistic financial goons roaming the lyrical vineyards. The munitions dealers are far far away in DC and these kinds of cities, even now, especially now, this is where they are.
The politicians are on the news, but not here. Not in Piemonte. This time of year you will only find fine food served in simple restaurants. Perhaps you wish to order tagliatelle in butter with truffles. Or veal with tuna sauce or seared robiola with carmelized onions – really the choice found in local cuisine, as endless as the landscape, will restore the faith. promise.
And if that is not enough you will also feel awe; your eyes will by suprised by all the fireflies. They will come out at night and cruise through the trees and along your garden. The hotter it gets the more magic you get to see….
In the land that acts like a balm, where everything is mild, where the coffee tastes like a milkshake and the pasta is al dente.
Yes, Piemonte is happily ensconced on the mind.
