It’s such a pretty place for two cultures to collide. Germans and Italians overlap so nicely on Lake Garda – the former can be rigid and the latter is so relaxed; it’s a perfect match.
One requires process while the other’s quite fine with chaos. The Austrian needs to see this to believe it and once they do the mindset and diet offer ideal reprieve. From Spring to Summer and once Autumn arrives they squeeze as much out of Garda as they can.
When I arrived 20 years ago they occupied the summer. But remote is here to stay and so are they, for as long as possible. Italians love the tourism and these types are great, low key and grateful to soak in the essence of Italy.
I’ve heard an American accent twice in 2 years and not many more times than that in 20. My dentist is Dutch, very few English, and the pretty sound of French every now and then.
No, the Germans know and love this space. When they drive down, they see their first palm tree, this is their paradise.
They now run a few tabacchi, they’re investing in more property, yes, Lake Garda is where these two cultural realities overlap quite nicely.
