Caravaggio

Rome offers the Caravaggio enthusiast a treasure hunt of places to find the artist who created blood and light on canvas.

The Church of San Luigi dei Francesi sits in between the Pantheon and Piazza Navona – the national church of France in Rome, named for Louis IX, King of France.

Designed by Giacomo della Porta in 1589. However, most come to admire the inside, the stunning interior, home to a trio of Caravaggio masterpieces. I didn’t capture ‘The Calling of Saint Matthew” on this trip. The crowds were crazy.

But I did get a great shot of Inspiration of Saint Matthew in the center and The Martyrdom of Saint Matthew to the right.
