Elon Musk and Giorgia Meloni are talking directly with the people

They’re both talking directly to the people and filtering out the mainstream noise. Meloni has weekly chats. We used to call these fireside chats, where FDR used to talk directly to the people by radio.

Meloni is using Telegram and other platforms. I listened to her and she spoke for half an hour about the price of gas and how their government is addressing specific energy issues. Jury’s out, she’s new, but it would appear Italians appreciate this mode of communication,

Musk is trying to do the same with Twitter. There had to be a reason he spent 44 billion on it. Perhaps Twitter’s proven too useful to give up, most efforts by media orgs to quit twitter have been brief or nonexistent, even for companies entangled in Musk’s banning of journalists last year.

Article from Axios about how Twitter is planning to run content sponsorship deals with more than 3 dozen news outlets, media companies and sports leagues in the first half of the year.

Why it matters: Elon Musk‘s leadership style has caused many advertisers to flee, but media companies, newsrooms and sports leagues are reaping too much revenue and marketing advantage to quit the platform.

The jury’s out for both, but they’re effectively filtering out an awful lot of noise. Hard not to appreciate their effort, if not their style. Meloni is a fantastic speaker, so the fireside chats make sense. Musk, not so much; hence the expensive megaphone.
