On our way.
Finding a translator for “Personal Legends of Piemonte” was daunting. My Italian isn’t great – how would I know the translation was any good. Getting ‘Lost in Translation’ occurs in the same language everyday – in work, relationships and social media.
Finally, found two, through contacts. For irrational reasons, this felt critical. Finding a Piemontese was unrealistic. I sent a few chapters out, when they came back, gave them to my guy, he’s fluent; he chose one.
Translation is an art form. The translator chosen did film subtitles, I thought, ‘oh, she’s visual, and will probably choose the right word”. We have 7 tenses to form in English, Italian has 14, or is it 21. Italians have so many words for one thing – however, Italy is known as being one of the best in creating subtitles translation for film.
Very happy, and quite relieved. The professional film translator is enthusiastic, young (as is everyone at my age) she understands the project and wants to work closely. She even wants to ‘eyeball’ the interviews. I thought I’d send out the entire project and wait, but no, she cares about it, she’s almost as emotional about the book as I am.
And, my Italian will improve.
Tutto ok.
