Two main arteries taking you up and down Italy

The A1 and A4. And I’ve been driving up and down both for 20 yrs. My guy and I just drove up and down the A1 on our latest trip to Rome.

In between Bologna and Firenze they now ask if u prefer the panoramic or direct route – we chose direct because we want to get to Rome, our favorite former home – not even sure Francis ever forgave our moving away.

If you’ve driven through Italy, you know the Po Valley is the only truly flat part of Italy – – 🇮🇹 is 80% mountains and they’ve carved even more tunnels for a quicker way to the eternal city, some as long as 7 kilometers. Motorways here are fantastic, well kept, monitored and yes, we pay for this pleasure. Through tolls and if you wish to drive straight through – there’s Telepass.

However, I was sorry to say no to the scenic route – after driving throughout Europe and Great Britain; Italy is certainly the prettiest and most atmospheric, like driving along the Amalfi coast, which is possibly the prettiest of them all.

I’ve taken so many road trips throughout Europe, some with my guy, some alone.

Driving along the French and Swiss Alps is lovely, and quite cold while on the back of my guy’s bike.

Above and below are photos from a road trip taken through the Dolomites. If you have the time I highly recommend.

What I wouldn’t recommend is driving from Piemonte to Zurich, alone and missing a turn off. Driving through Davos was dangerous, what with all the globalists, but I made it.

Last two photos; Loazzolo in Piemonte – at it’s most atmospheric.

Piemonte is the secret that needs to be told.
