We all have a special spot

We all have that special spot in our favorite city; mine happens to be @ Piazza del Popolo. Before we moved to Trastevere, waiting for our stuff to arrive from across the pond, we lived in a furnished apartment on Via Flaminia, outside the gates. My guy would arrive back in town, call from the piazza, alerting me to put the pasta so it’d be on ready by the time he came home.

At this piazza you’ll find he who created blood and light on canvas – Caravaggio’s ‘The Conversion of Saint Paul on the Road to Damascus’. The Caravaggio is located in the minor basilica but feels major; I probably feel the same sensation as those who couldn’t read back then – seeing biblical scenes displayed before their eyes with such deep intensity.

At Piazza del Popolo you’ll find the Christmas tree that usually belongs in Piazza Venezia. Too much construction at Venezia, in fact too much everywhere. The post covid release means Rome is absolutely packed.

But here at Piazza del Popolo there is so much room and so many streets to see. Three streets extend from the piazza…

One street to wander down and imbibe all the lovely antique stores.

another street full of artisan shops and small churches, like this one…

And another street called Via del Corso, for Romans to parade up and down, showcasing their absolutely fantastic sartorial style

Plenty of rooftop magic.

~ and hey, many thanks for traveling with me; happy new year!
